13-year-old dies after striking metal cable while riding e-bike in Everett

According to Everett Police, a 13-year-old boy who was seriously hurt after colliding with a braided wire while riding an electric bicycle in Everett has passed away.

On May 2, at around 4:30 p.m., a collision occurred in the 8800 block of 5th Avenue West.

According to the police, the teenager attempted to cross a grassy area to go to a nearby cul-de-sac while riding his electric bicycle south on 5th Avenue West.

The child ran into a braided metal cable that had been stretched between a traffic bollard and a fence post as he was crossing the lot.

A serious injury resulted from the crash.

Crews from the Everett Fire Department and Everett Police officers, including the Traffic Safety Unit, arrived on the site.

Medical personnel took the teenager to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center. On May 5, he passed away due to his injuries.

Following notification to the City of Everett’s Risk Management team, the cable was taken out of the lot.

According to Everett Police, the investigation is still ongoing.
