Troopers are investigating after a teenager was killed in a Piedmont Triad collision.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a crash shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday in Stokes County, on NC 8 near Sawmill Road.
A gold 2002 Ford Taurus was driving on NC 8, when it drifted off the road, overcorrected, and exited the road on the opposite side. The automobile then went through a grass and struck two trees. The driver, William James Turner, 17, of Madison, died on the scene.
Troopers suspect that excessive speed was a contributing issue.
His foster mother claims he was always upbeat, and he enjoyed riding four-wheelers, fishing, and hunting with his pals.
She stated that following graduation, he intended to go truck driving school and become a diesel technician.

“He was the sweetest, most loving kid you have ever met. If you needed something and he had it, it was yours. He just gave,” said Tina Lawson, Turner’s foster mother.
North Stokes High School Principal Ricky Vernon remembered the minute of silence on Monday morning.
“It was a solemn time, and it was a time where any differences anybody may have had … went away, and our students really rallied with each other and held each other and helped each other in this time,” Vernon said.
Lawson claims Turner was hesitant to attend prom because he disliked crowded occasions, but he changed his mind at the last minute.
Local clergy and grief counselors will be available to assist high school students in dealing with the loss.
