2 men break into wrong home twice in Staten Island while searching for woman, police say

According to sources, two men in search of a woman broke into the incorrect house twice at Meiers Corners and falsely reported guns in a car to the police.

According to the criminal complaint and police, the incidents started on March 28 when the men allegedly entered the backyard of a house near Suffolk Avenue and Harold Street. Lamont Fields, 54, of Barnfield Place in North Babylon, Long Island, and Trelane Hester, 24, of 228th Street in Queens, are accused of being involved in the incidents.

According to the criminal complaint, the two went into a sunroom at the rear of the residence.

According to a source familiar with the inquiry, a resident of the house called 911 to report that someone was accessing the sunroom through a rear door from the backyard.

According to the criminal complaint and police, at approximately 9:45 p.m. that same evening, a caller, who was identified as Hester in the complaint, called 911 and made a fake report that two people were in a Mercedes-Benz with several firearms.

According to a person familiar with the inquiry, the caller informed the 911 operator that a male and girl were in a Mercedes-Benz parked around the corner, which prompted authorities to pull stop the Mercedes.

According to the criminal complaint, officers searched the Mercedes-Benz and its occupants and found no firearms.

The criminal complaint claims that Fields and Hester broke into the sunroom and rear of the same house on Suffolk Avenue and Harold Street on April 25, over a month later.

At that moment, a 911 call was sent stating that two men were entering the house’s back room. According to a person familiar with the inquiry, officers responded and the males were taken into custody near the scene.

According to a source with knowledge of the inquiry, the males, who were identified as Hester and Fields, entered the backyard through a door that was left open, as shown in video footage taken by a doorbell security camera.

Hester allegedly told police that he thought the woman was in the Mercedes-Benz when he called about it. He claimed that in their search for the woman Fields had known before, they went into several backyards in the neighborhood.

Fields and Hester are accused with trespassing, burglary, and criminal trespassing. According to the criminal complaint, Hester has also been accused of reporting an incident falsely.

According to public records, Fields and Hester have entered not guilty pleas to all counts, been released on non-monetary conditions, and are scheduled to return to the state Criminal Court in St. George on June 9.
