Three minors have been charged criminally after police claim they drunkenly crashed a stolen car on Interstate 65 after a high-speed pursuit.
Bartholomew County Sheriff’s officers were notified at 11:30 p.m. last Friday that a reckless vehicle was driving southbound on I-65. The Lamborghini was reportedly spotted swerving across the road and brake-checking several vehicles.
According to a BCSO announcement issued on Monday, deputies attempted to stop the car, but the driver drove away. A police chase ensued, with the suspect vehicle apparently exceeding 110 mph.
Officials say the driver, a 16-year-old, attempted to exit the freeway at the 64-mile marker but lost control of the vehicle. The truck then became airborne when it off the road, finally rolling over and colliding with some surrounding trees.
Deputies said they discovered the driver and two other kids inside the car. All three individuals were treated on the scene, with one eventually being transported by ambulance to Riley Children’s Hospital.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies think all three adolescents were under the influence of marijuana, as was the driver. The automobile they were driving had previously been reported stolen outside of Indianapolis.
The 16-year-old driver was subsequently detained and put at the Bartholomew County Youth Services Centre for the following charges:
- Possession of Marijuana,
- Possession of Stolen Property,
- Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle,
- Operating While Intoxicated,
- Operating While Intoxicated – Endangerment and Illegal Consumption.
The other two teenagers in the car will apparently face criminal charges as a result of their medical care. BCSO did not immediately provide any more information.
