Even though he was more than 30 pounds over the ride’s weight restriction at the time, a man who was purportedly hurt following a disastrous fall down a waterslide at Walt Disney World is suing the massive theme park for $50,000 in damages.
Eugene Strickland, who filed the case last Thursday, says he is still dealing with the fallout from “catastrophic injuries” he suffered when he rode the Downhill Double Dipper at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Waterpark in July 2021.
According to the complaint, Strickland was slightly over the ride’s 300-pound weight limit at the time, weighing 334 pounds. It’s unclear if he knew the weight limit or had been told about it before he went down the slide.
The complaint claims that Strickland lost control of the inner tube he was riding in and “became momentarily airborne” on the waterslide before landing “with force onto the hard plastic surface of the slide.”

The complaint claims that the waterslide’s design and “exhilarating speeds” are to fault.
According to the lawsuit, Strickland claims that he “suffered serious bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering, disability, scarring, disfigurement, mental anguish, [and] loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life” that he continues to deal with today.
In addition, he alleges that Disney World was directly at fault for not creating a safe environment and that they knew full well the “safety hazard” and “concealed trap” the waterslide provided, both of which led to his injuries.
