An Aiken woman told authorities that her little child was tossed off a carnival ride over the weekend.
The incident occurred between 2:20 and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to an Aiken County Sheriff’s Office report. The family reported that a 4-year-old was thrown from the Arctic Blast ride at Aiken Fest.
The mother contacted deputies at Wellstar MCG hospital in Augusta, where the youngster had been transported following the incident.
Deputies did not provide specifics about the injuries, but stated non-emergency transportation was used to get the child to the hospital.
A deputy found there was no crime involved and informed the mother that the case was a civil matter.
The attraction, owned by Rethoffer Shows, which hosts Aiken Fest, was recently inspected on April 3, according to the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation’s Office of Elevators and Amusement Rides.
It passed the inspection, which ends on December 31, according to the agency, which also stated that there has been no previous incident concerning the ride.
We inquired about the event, and a representative stated: “Although not required by state law, an incident was reported to the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation (LLR)’s Office of Elevators and Amusement Rides.”
According to the agency, the owner must notify any mishap that involves serious injury by the end of the next business day.
However, she stated, “The owner has not reported an accident involving serious injury.”
The agency does not keep records on height or age criteria.
However, according to the Reithoffer website, the Arctic Blast requires a height of 48 inches or feet.
