4-year-old with special needs among 4 killed in Morris County multi-vehicle crash

A multi-vehicle crash in New Jersey killed four individuals, including a 4-year-old boy.

On Thursday afternoon, April 10, officials were alerted to an incident on Route 10 in Morris County.

According to a statement from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, when first responders arrived, they saw a four-vehicle crash involving a school minivan carrying personnel and students from the P.G. Chambers school.

The deceased were named as Bertha Castaneda, 67; Diane Goetz, 71; Maria Z. Figueroa, 58; and Yexsel Reyes Granados, 4. The police statement confirmed that Castaneda, Figueroa, and Granados were all riding in the school minivan.

According to authorities, at least four other persons were hurt in the event, including two adults who were treated on the scene and two children who were sent to a local hospital.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and the prosecutor’s office is appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

According to Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, many information of the accident will stay undisclosed for the time being.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives, and with those whose lives will undoubtedly be impacted by their loss,” he said.

Yexsel, who had special requirements, was initially moved to Morristown Hospital, but died one day later.
