According to statements made by prosecutors on Thursday, a “reprehensible” youth basketball coach from Westchester County was accused with sexually assaulting a young girl on at least two separate occasions over the course of a period of five months.
After being charged with a felony of sexual behaviour against a child, Dwayne Murray, 62, who coached the Mount Vernon Junior Knights basketball team, was ordered to be held without bail, according to Westchester District Attorney Susan Cacace, who made the announcement during a news briefing.
Murray is claimed to have made “some admissions” regarding the alleged abuse, according to Cacace.
“It is alleged that between Oct. 1, 2023, and March 1, 2023, Murray engaged in two or more acts of sexual conduct with a child who is less than 13 years old, including one act of oral sexual conduct,” she stated.
“There is no crime we take more seriously than offenses committed against children, especially offenses of a sexual nature.”
On April 12, Cacace stated that officials received a tip regarding the alleged mistreatment, and they immediately began an inquiry into the matter.
The phone and other electronic devices belonging to Murray were taken into custody by the police, and it was discovered that “the defendant had exchanged text messages with the victim in which he discussed performing oral sex on the victim.”
Wednesday marked the day when the disgraced coach was taken into custody and arraigned in the Mount Vernon City Court.
After posting a six-minute video on Facebook in which he claimed that the claims were “absolutely, completely false,” Murray was eventually arrested, which was a surprising development.

On Thursday, Cacace refused to disclose whether or not the teenage victim was a member of Murray’s team or disclosed the location of the alleged sexual abuse that took place.
There is a long-standing basketball program in the suburban city, and the Junior Knights are a part of it.
