After missing his bus trip, a nine-year-old boy took matters into his own hands to ensure he didn’t miss class, driving his parents’ truck to school, according to authorities.
Serjeant Braden Blackburn of the Maize Police Department told Fox News Digital that a concerned citizen called them on Wednesday morning regarding a driver who “appeared too young to drive.”
According to Blackburn, the caller stated that the driver was in a white Chevy pickup truck and seemed to be between the ages of 10 and 11.
After failing to locate the truck, officers eventually found the youngster and the vehicle in the elementary school parking lot.
According to Blackburn, the youngster had driven the vehicle about three miles from his house to his elementary school in the Wichita suburb of Maize, Kansas.
The child informed the police that he took the truck to make sure he didn’t miss school because he missed the bus, his mum was out of town, and his dad was already at work.
He placed the truck in a stall, Blackburn observed, adding that “he parked better than most people park.”
“Typically, we get these calls about young high school kids, some that have just gotten their driver’s licenses, mostly. This was a new one for us,” Blackburn said.
According to Blackburn, there were no traffic problems or collisions during the boy’s brief trip.
Blackburn added that he’s “sure he’s in tonnes of trouble with his parents,” and that police officers did not issue any penalties. They will let the parents decide how to handle the situation.
