Police say an Aurora man stole a pickup truck, drove it through Denver and Glendale, then collided head-on with another vehicle while allegedly under the influence on Saturday night, resulting in five people being hospitalized and one man being placed in jail.

Following his discharge from the hospital, Aurora resident Michael Guadalupe Freyta, 26, was taken into custody and is currently being charged with misdemeanor DUI, motor vehicle theft, evading, and two instances of vehicular assault, all of which are crimes.

According to the Aurora Police Department, one of the four individuals hurt in the other vehicle was transported to the hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries, while the other three were taken there with minor wounds.

According to a department spokesperson, when police saw the 2000 Dodge Ram Freyta was driving at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Saturday close to East Mississippi Avenue and South Chambers Road, they were able to confirm it was stolen.

At the intersection of South Potomac Street and East Mississippi Avenue, officers attempted to halt the car. Officers allegedly chased Freyta west through Denver into Glendale after he ran away.

Then, close to South Leetsdale Drive and South Cherry Street in Glendale, he struck another car carrying four persons.
