The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 19-year-old Green Bay woman was taken into custody following a high-speed pursuit that resulted in a collision in downtown Fond du Lac on May 30.
Due to injuries he incurred in the collision, the suspect was sent to St. Agnes Hospital. She may be charged with first-degree careless endangering safety, operating when revoked due to rejection of alcohol or controlled substances, operating while inebriated causing injury, evading an officer, and three counts of felony bail jumping.
The sheriff’s office claims that:
On May 30, at 6:37 p.m., a deputy observed the suspect’s car heading north on South Main Street in Fond du Lac at over 50 mph in a 25 mph zone.
The car accelerated to more than 80 miles per hour.
As the car approached a crowded downtown area, the deputy called off the pursuit.
The driver proceeded through downtown at a fast speed, occasionally using the southbound lane.
The driver collided with a southbound car close to the crossroads with Division Street. The motorist struck multiple more cars as he proceeded north on North Main Street. The suspect’s car caught fire and came to a stop close to Merrill Avenue.
When the first car was hit, it caught fire.
Officers from Fond du Lac Police and deputies assessed the situation for injuries and offered assistance “in an overall scene that spanned a city block.” After receiving treatment, the three people inside the struck cars were let go.
The defendant, who was released on two signature bonds and is facing charges in Brown County, also has outstanding charges in Fond du Lac and Ozaukee counties.
“This young suspect, who already has a lengthy criminal history, left a massive path of destruction in downtown Fond du Lac on a Friday evening,” Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt said in a news release. “She terrorized dozens of our citizens and visitors who were downtown to enjoy the start to the weekend. We’re thankful no one was killed, and wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured.”
The crashes are being looked into by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
