Storm system brings chance of lightning, heavy rain to San Diego

San Diego, CA – San Diego County is expected to experience showers and thunderstorms starting Tuesday afternoon and lasting through Wednesday, as an area of low pressure traverses Southern California, as reported by the National Weather Service.

Experts predict that the highest likelihood of thunderstorms will occur in the mountainous regions, although there is a possibility that some storms could move into the valleys and coastal areas by Tuesday night.

Expect the arrival of subtropical moisture and atmospheric instability with this system, leading to the possibility of cloud-to-ground lightning, heavy rainfall, and small hail, particularly in mountainous and desert areas.

Even with the ongoing storm activity, temperatures are projected to stay consistent along with persistent humidity, according to the NWS.

Elevated heat levels On Tuesday, temperatures are expected to hit 70 along the coast, 73 in inland areas, 76 to 81 in the western valleys, 75 to 85 in the mountains, and approximately 100 in the deserts.

As the system departs the area, expect drier air to start moving in by Thursday. As the weekend approaches, a slow increase in temperatures is anticipated, accompanied by the reappearance of the marine layer and low clouds along the coast during the nighttime and morning periods, as reported by meteorologists.

An increase in atmospheric pressure is expected to develop gradually as we approach early next week, leading to a rise in temperatures and more consistent weather patterns in the area.
