Following complaints of illicit relationships with students, detectives arrested a football coach and high school teacher in Fauquier County on Monday.
Gary Robert “Bobby” Hix, 28, was taken into custody by the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) after an investigation that including interviews, a review of electronic devices, and a social media analysis.
According to FCSO, investigators found that Hix was contacting football players or students under his supervision using the Snapchat app. These people, both adults and children, would provide him with naked photos.
According to FCSO, Hix also nurtured children, winning their trust by isolating them, giving them presents, and sharing secrets with them to make them feel special. According to FCSO, this creates an environment in which “abuse seems normal or acceptable.”
“The trust families place in us to protect and care for their children is sacred, and any violation of that trust is intolerable. We are cooperating fully with the Sheriff’s Office and taking all appropriate personnel actions to address this matter and ensure the continued safety of our students,” Major Warner, Superintendent of Fauquier County Public Schools, said in a statement.
The investigation into this matter is still underway, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators think there might be more victims. If you believe that Hix sent you offensive communications or pictures, FCSO encourages you to call its Criminal Investigations Division at 540-422-8650.
