130 animals found cramped in vehicle; Arkansas man faces animal abuse charges - Springfield police

After discovering about 130 farm animals in terrible condition in his car, the Springfield Police Department said that they have arrested a man from Yellville, Arkansas, on charges of animal abuse and neglect.

Court records available online indicate Steven Manson, 34, is accused of six misdemeanours, including four counts of animal neglect and two instances of animal abuse. He has a $10,000 bond and is presently being held in Greene County Jail.

Officers received 911 reports regarding a pickup truck and trailer parked at a place on North Glenstone that was full of animals, some of which were dead or injured, according to the probable cause statement. The responding policeman proceeded to inspect the car in question.

The trailer had 63 animals, including hens, pigs, piglets, bunnies, turkeys, goats, and ducks, in 14 tiny to medium-sized dog kennels. According to court filings, the officer discovered an injured turkey and a dead rabbit in a cage with additional bunnies. In addition to being in bad shape, the kennels lacked water, with the exception of one, which had murky, unclean water.

Two of the about 67 birds in ten little cages inside the vehicle were discovered dead. The truck had all but one window closed.

Manson travelled from Yellville to sell the animals at neighbourhood swap meetings, according to court records. Manson admitted to authorities that his truck had difficult-to-repair mechanical problems and that he frequently brought animals to stockyards and swap meets in this state because he believed he was providing them with proper care.
