According to reports, a sexuality-focused questionnaire asking if they were gay and accusing heterosexuals of overpopulating the world was sent to high school pupils in Florida enrolled in a course at a nearby college.
The course and sexually explicit questionnaire were presented to high school students as part of a Miami-Dade College course. The course, called “Preparing for Student Success,” was given in Miami-Dade County and was intended to help students create academic objectives and strategies for success in college.
But one of the questions posed to the students was, “What do you think caused your heterosexuality?” “Is it possible that being straight is just a phase you may grow out of?” together with “Considering the menace of hunger and overpopulation, could the human race survive if everyone were straight like yourself?”
“When and how did you decide you were straight?” was one of the other questions posed. “Is it possible that your heterosexuality stems from a neurotic fear of others of the same sex?” “”There seem to be many unhappy heterosexuals. Techniques have been developed that might enable you to change your sexual orientation. Have you considered changing?” along with “Why do straights place so much emphasis on sex?”
“It’s not normal. I mean, imagine if a person, anyone, goes close to your son and asks him these questions, I’d call the police,” a worried mother whose son was enrolled in the program told. “It’s perversion. Why are you talking about their sexuality to 15-year-old boys or girls? It’s absolutely sick. It’s sick.”
The course description states that it covers goal-setting, learning style evaluations, college success methods, and general and discipline-specific study techniques within a variety of theoretical, practical, and experiential frameworks.
Robert Feldman, a senior research associate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst,’s textbook “POWER: Strategies for Success in College and Life” served as the source for the questions.
The “Heterosexual Questionnaire” was created in 1972 by Martin Rochlin, a gay rights activist and founding member of the Gay and Lesbian Center of Los Angeles.
Following a review, the institution informed me that it had decided the assignment would no longer be used.

“Miami-Dade College is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and academically sound learning environment for all students,” the college stated. “In response to concerns raised about a classroom assignment, we have conducted a thorough review of the assignment, and it will no longer be used. We expect all those who teach to uphold these standards and will ensure any necessary adjustments are made.”
The mother informed the outlet that the pupils were asked about diversity in a different questionnaire. In one exercise, they were urged to find out how diverse their campus was by obtaining data on the proportion of ethnic minorities enrolled; in another, they were urged to “check your stereotype quotient.” “If you found out that a star professional football player is gay, would you be surprised?” was one of the questions that were asked.
