A recall of 1,700,000 brown cage-free and certified organic eggs was announced by August Egg Company on Friday because of possible salmonella concerns.
Due to the possibility of foodborne illness, contamination, unreported food allergies, and damaged items, numerous recalls have been started this year.
Each year, food allergies and sensitivities affect millions of Americans. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lists the following nine “major” food allergies in the United States: peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, milk, fish, wheat, soybeans, crustacean shellfish, and sesame.
The Food and Drug Administration cautions that salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and occasionally fatal illnesses in young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.
Some of the eggs were sent to supermarkets such as Save Mart, FoodMaxx, Lucky, Smart & Final, Safeway, Raleys, Food 4 Less, and Ralphs, according to the FDA’s advisory.
These eggs were shipped in California and Nevada between February 3, 2025, and May 15, 2025, with sell-by dates of March 4, 2025, and June 4, 2025.
According to the FDA, more eggs were supplied in Walmart shops in Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, California, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, and Wyoming between February 3, 2025, and May 6, 2025, with sell-by dates of March 4, 2025, and June 19, 2025.
The FDA states that the plant code numbers for the recalled eggs, which are printed on the packaging, are P-6562 or CA5330 with Julian Dates ranging from 32 to 126.

The Julian dates, which are numbers consisting of three to seven digits, indicate the day on which the product was produced or packaged.
As stated in the advisory, “This recall is associated with an ongoing outbreak investigation of Salmonella Enteritidis illnesses.” The investigation pertains to items that were sold throughout the nine states.
A chart showing the Julian dates and matching item names is also included in the FDA advisory.
Consumers can return the eggs to the original retailer for a refund or call August Egg Company at 1-800-710-2554 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT if they have any more questions.
