Residents of Lynnfield are expressing their opinions regarding some extremely upsetting and racist statements that were purportedly made by certain town employees who have been placed on administrative leave and were captured on camera.
Employees were getting ready for the Lynnfield High School graduation on Friday when it occurred.
While video showed workers unfolding chairs on the school’s football pitch, audio of the remarks was captured by a camera set up for a live stream of the ceremony.
The senior class president, Michael Murphy, gave a speech during the commencement.
“It honestly shocked me, I just can’t people would say stuff like that,” he stated.
Murphy claimed that until after the commencement, none of the students knew about the incident.
“I can’t believe that they would say such things like that. It obviously does not resemble us as a town and definitely not a class,” Murphy stated.
Lily White, a graduate, says she was also taken aback by the video and believes the remarks don’t accurately reflect the school or the community of Lynnfield.
“It was kind of crazy and quite disrespectful. Definitely the right thing to suspend them from their job. I just think it was very disrespectful, and kind of embarrassed about the town,” White stated.
Employees put on administrative leave
Other people saw the video on social media before it was eventually removed.
Although they won’t say how many are involved, town officials say the employees have been identified and put on administrative leave.

According to a statement issued by Assistant Town Administrator Robert Curtin and Town Administrator Robert Dolan of Lynnfield, “We, as town leaders, stand together in outrage over what has been reported this evening and wish to state emphatically that racist language and behaviour has no place in our town and will be dealt with immediately.”
Georgeann Lieb says she feels sorry for the students and believes they should be treated better.
“For Lynnfield and any area in the state we got to realise what we are saying and what is spoken outwardly because you do not know who is listening,” Lieb stated.
Murphy wants people to leave with a more significant takeaway.
“Just don’t be hateful and treat everyone equally,” Murphy stated.
The names of those placed on administrative leave have not yet been made public. The town, police, and select board are still looking into the incident.
