A tractor excavator was being pursued by law enforcement officers in South Carolina for more than an hour at a speed comparable to that of an average adult walking down a busy highway. The pursuit was not particularly intense.
According to the police, the pursuit reached speeds of three miles per hour early on Sunday morning in North Charleston.
According to the report that was written by the North Charleston Police Department, officers who were responding to a different complaint witnessed the large piece of construction equipment that had treads and a shovel in front of it cross US Highway 78 at approximately 3:30 in the morning.
A few minutes later, they received a complaint of a burglary from a business that had sustained significant damage, and they observed the excavator slowly making its way away, according to the police.
The pursuit was carried out at a fairly sluggish speed, and several cars soon joined in.
Because the excavator was moving at such a snail’s pace, the cruisers would have to come to a complete halt for a few seconds at regular intervals in order to avoid passing the construction machinery.
Their blue lights and sirens were activated, and they communicated to the excavator driver through their loudspeakers that he was being arrested and that he was required to come to a stop. Traffic was obstructed by other cruisers.

The pursuit lasted for one hour and twelve minutes before the excavator finally made its way onto the premises of the Charleston County Fairgrounds, where it became stuck.
The driver made an attempt to flee, but a drone tracked him closely until a police dog and its handler caught up with him, according to the authorities.
According to the records of the Charleston County jail, the driver of the excavator, who was 53 years old, was charged with failing to stop for a blue light and two charges of malicious injury to real property. He stayed in the jail on a bond of $22,000.
