T1 Parking Expansion at San Diego Airport Adds 2,400 New Spaces

On Friday, the second stage of the Terminal 1 Parking Plaza at San Diego International Airport opened, resulting in the acquisition of approximately 2,400 additional parking spaces at the airport.

A total of 5,200 parking spaces are now available at the plaza, which is located in close proximity to the present Terminal 1 and the New T1, which is scheduled to open in September of 2025.

“We opened the first stage of the Terminal 1 Parking Plaza in August 2024, which more than doubled the number of parking spaces we offered at the previous Terminal 1 parking lot,” Kimberly Becker, president and CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority stated. “We have a significant demand for onsite parking at SAN and the opening of stage 2 allows us to better provide that for our customers. We now have nearly 8,500 close-in parking spaces at Terminal 1 and 2 at SAN.”

Drivers can get to the Terminal 1 Parking Plaza by following the guidance signage that are located along North Harbor Drive in both the westbound and eastbound directions.

It is stated in a statement issued by the airport authorities that the entry and exit lanes are equipped with ticket kiosks that are equipped with an intercom system that links with the parking management office of the airport.

The plaza is comprised of three color-coded parts that are designed to assist tourists in locating their automobiles.

Additionally, the plaza features glass-backed elevators and open stairwells that are designed to offer travelers with a sense of safety. In addition, there is a free tire-inflation facility located close to the exit on Level 1, and luggage trolleys are provided on all floors.

There is a total of 1,023 parking spots that are reserved for carpooling, electric and hybrid vehicles, twenty spaces that are close to one hour, and 185 parking spots that include charging outlets for electric vehicles.

The airport authority claims that a parking guidance system would make it easier for customers to locate open slots, which will result in a reduction in the amount of pollutants produced by vehicles.

Vehicles that enter and exit the parking plaza in less than ten minutes will not be charged for parking even if they are parked there.
