In response to many reports of serious injuries and a potentially fatal defect, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled a high-end highchair on Thursday.
After several parents accused the Bugaboo Giraffe highchair of causing severe falls that led to injuries such a hematoma, facial bruises, abrasions, and a brief loss of consciousness, CPSC authorities stated the decision was taken.
The CPSC stated, citing incident reports on SaferProducts.gov and parent posts on Reddit and Amazon, that the screws holding the chair’s legs together appear to be prone to loosening over time and even coming loose on their own.
Numerous grievances regarding the customer support procedure are included in the post, ranging from hangups to weeks-long waits for email responses.
It is recommended that parents who purchased the chair cease using it right once and get in touch with Bugaboo to get a repair kit. There are currently no refunds available.
“Safety is paramount to ensure the well-being of our customers and their children,” Bugaboo states on its website. “To decrease the potential for incorrect installation of the screws, we have developed a free Repair Kit.”
Apparently, the kit comes with:
- A better Allen key for simpler installation
- a revised set of screws
- A detailed instruction guide
“If you have ordered a Bugaboo Giraffe after May 1st, 2025, you will already have the Repair Kit included in your Bugaboo Giraffe box and no further action is needed,” as per Bugaboo. The recall page contains a link for parents who want to check their highchair’s serial number.

In the beginning of the week, Consumer Reports wrote a letter to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) requesting that an investigation be conducted into the injury reports.
“While we are glad to see the product being recalled, it is unacceptable that Bugaboo is not offering a refund to consumers who want one,” Gabe Knight, Senior Policy Analyst at Consumer Reports stated. “Babies have been injured falling from this high chair, and parents may not feel comfortable using it anymore. We applaud the CPSC for recalling this product and alerting consumers to the potential safety risks, but Bugaboo should let caretakers decide whether they want the free repair kit, or their money back.”
The United States had issued a recall for 18,280 highchairs, while Canada had issued a recall for 2,325 highchairs.
