Frankfort Crash Leaves 2 Dead, 1 Injured After Van Hits Telephone Pole

According to the Kentucky State Police, two local citizens were killed and a third was injured in a sad single-vehicle incident in Franklin County on Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday, June 15, at around 12:30 p.m., a collision happened on East Main Street close to the Butler Drive intersection in Frankfort.

Under reasons that are still being looked into, a 2007 Ford van was heading west when it veered off the road and struck a telephone pole.

The vehicle was carrying two Franklin County citizens, Carolyn Jackson, 76, and James Jackson, 81, at the time of the collision, according to a news statement from Kentucky State Police. According to reports, Carolyn Jackson was thrown from the car as it collided.

The Franklin County Coroner’s Office declared her dead at the scene.

James Jackson was taken to Frankfort Regional Medical Center after suffering severe injuries in the crash. He was later declared dead at the hospital despite medical efforts.

Terrones Mitchell, the van’s driver, was hurt in the collision as well. After being taken to Frankfort Regional Medical Center, he was admitted to receive treatment there.

Additional information regarding the amount and seriousness of his injuries has not been made public by authorities.

For several hours on Sunday afternoon, Kentucky State Police and local law enforcement stayed on the scene to carry out a preliminary investigation.

While authorities attempted to record the collision and remove the damaged car, traffic was temporarily stopped at the intersection of East Main Street and Butler Drive.

What caused the van to veer off the road and collide with the pole is still unknown. Investigators are attempting to ascertain whether the collision was caused by speed, a medical issue, or any other contributing factors.
