Brad Peeks ineligible to run for Calera City Council

CALERA –

Brad Peeks will not be able to run for Calera City Council due to zoning restrictions.

“After months of effort, meetings, paperwork, and doing everything in my power to make it happen—I want to share with you all that I will not be able to run for city office this term due to zoning restrictions that were out of my control,” Peeks said in a Facebook post.

Peeks worked diligently to come to a resolution with the city, but ultimately could not find a way to be eligible to run.

“Let me be clear: I fought at every angle. I worked with officials, pursued every lead, showed up, and pushed as hard as I could,” Peeks said. “But at the end of the day, the zoning issue became an unmovable wall that blocked my path—not from lack of effort, but because of where I live and the city lines drawn long before I stepped into the ring.”

Despite not getting the result he had hoped for, Peeks remains determined to invest in Calera’s future and give back to the community however he can.

“Am I disappointed? Of course. Am I discouraged? Not a chance,” Peeks said. “This isn’t the end—this is a pivot. I’m not walking away—I’m walking forward. I’ll be joining as many boards as I can to be involved in shaping Calera from the inside. I’ll still be showing up, leading, and serving the community in every way possible.”

Although it will not include serving on the City Council, Peeks has already figured out his next step in serving the community.

“I’m proud to say I’ll be attending bus driver school and will soon be a school bus driver for our city—because showing up for the next generation and being a part of their daily lives is leadership, too,” Peeks said.

Peeks is grateful for the support he has received from the community.

“Thank you to everyone who believed in me and continues to ride with me. The support means more than I can say,” Peeks said. “This isn’t a loss—it’s a redirection. And I’m still all in.”
