Murder Over Trash Dispute Grandmother and Son Fatally Shot, Authorities Say

According to authorities, a convicted murderer in North Carolina shot and killed a 26-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman following a fight over trash.

According to the agency’s Facebook page, police responded to a shooting in Henderson, about 40 miles northeast of Raleigh, at 6:45 p.m. on Sunday in the 600 block of Maple Street.

Teresa Davis and her son, Joseph Jeffreys Jr., were found to have been shot when police arrived. The two were declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant on two counts of murder after identifying the suspect as Michael Sharron Wright, 41.

The relatives and friends of the victims filled in some of the blanks regarding the circumstances surrounding the alleged homicide, which the police did not specify. It was said that Wright and Davis lived next door.

Jeffreys confronted Wright at his house regarding some trash cans that the suspect had thrown in Davis’ yard. Jeffreys’ gun is said to have been used by Wright to shoot the victims.

“It was over trash over some freakin’ trash,” Davis’ friend, Tennisha Eaton stated. “This woman is gone. This boy is gone, over some trash.”

Eaton added that Jeffreys’ three kids witnessed the shooting.

“That’s so heartbreaking for the grandkids to be in the car, his kids to see their daddy and their grandmother get killed,” Eaton stated. “That’s senseless.”

Wright should be regarded as dangerous and armed, police said as they searched for him. After killing his uncle, Wright was released from prison in January 2024, according to records.

In 2010, Wright was charged at the age of 26 with the murder of Kirk Douglas Wright Sr., his uncle, who was 54.

In his backyard, police discovered Kirk Wright buried in a shallow grave. About three years later, Michael Wright was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Wright gave himself up to police on Monday in a unique manner. Around 2:30 a.m., he called Granville County Sheriff Robert Fountain and stated that he would only turn himself in to Fountain.

“Around 8 o’clock I received another phone call from an individual identifying himself as Mr. Michael Wright,” Fountain stated. “He told me to start heading toward Louisburg and he would give me further instructions on where he would be once I got there.”

The suspect was apprehended by the sheriff after Wright and Fountain met in the parking lot of a nearby eatery.

“The community trusts me in what we’re doing and they know I’m going to do the right thing,”

Without bond, Wright is still being held at the Granville County Detention Center.
