According to the authorities and the local news reports, a girl who was 12 years old recently passed away after being involved in a scooter accident that left her and her friend injured.
The Aston Township Police Department issued a statement stating that on the afternoon of Saturday, June 14, Abigail Gillon, who was 12 years old, and Isabella Jones, who was 11 years old, were riding an electric scooter near Lehr Boulevard and Concord Road in Aston, Pennsylvania. Both of them were struck by a vehicle.
According to the police, “both juveniles sustained serious, life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision,” and they added that the girls were in “critical” condition at the time of the report.
The perpetrator of the accident remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
According to the police, there were no charges had been filed at that time, and the investigation was still ongoing.
Gillon passed away on Monday, June 16, after suffering from a “severe traumatic brain injury,” according to the organizer of a GoFundMe page that was created to provide financial assistance to the family of the young girl.
Jones continues to sit in the hospital.
An individual who lived in the neighborhood of Gillon stated that she was a cheerleader who cherished her family and friends.
“Whether she was cheering on her team or gliding through the water, she did it with all her heart,” Brianna Newmiller stated.
On Tuesday, June 17, Newmiller was present at Ridley Middle School in Ridley Park, where thousands of people had gathered to remember the young girl with a memorial service.
According to Newmiller, the organs that Gillon donated were also instrumental in saving the life of another girl who was 12 years old.
“She cared deeply for her family, friends and classmates, and community,” according to the neighbor. “She was the kind of person who showed up for others, who made you feel seen and who brought joy just by being herself.”
When Gillon’s mother arrived, she let go of a balloon in the shape of a heart that had her name printed on it.
Additionally present at the ceremony was Kevin Pierce, who had been the swimming coach for both of the girls. According to him, they shared an extraordinary connection.
“One without the other was very rare, joined at the hip. If you got one, you most likely got both,” Pierce stated. “It broke my heart. You don’t wish this on anybody.”
