A law that would have prohibited all consumables containing THC was vetoed by Governor Greg Abbott of Texas on Sunday.
This decision allows the thriving market that is flooded with THC-infused vapes, candies, and other items to continue to be marketed throughout the state.
A Republican named Abbott waited until the very last second to exercise his veto power over the bill, which would have resulted in one of the most stringent THC restrictions in the country and dealt a severe blow to the state’s industry, which is worth billions of dollars.
The law would have made it a misdemeanour to possess, manufacture, or sell consumable THC, also known as tetrahydrocannabinol, products.
This was the latest attempt by states to regulate THC, following a federal law that allowed states to regulate hemp in 2018.
Hemp is a plant that is similar to marijuana and can be processed synthetically to produce THC, which is the compound that gives marijuana its psychoactive properties.
Because of loopholes in the regulation that is now in place, numerous products that contain THC have been able to enter the market across the country, including in states that have very severe marijuana laws.
A restricted medical marijuana program is available in Texas, which has some of the most stringent marijuana laws in the country.
The state also prohibits the use of marijuana for recreational purposes. The market for consumables has made it possible for citizens to lawfully obtain products that provide a high that is comparable to that of marijuana.
Legislators who are members of the Republican Party have expressed their concern that the items are hazardous since there is little federal regulation of the manufacturing process.
The restriction that Texas has enacted is one of the more comprehensive among the states that have taken moves that are comparable. Age limitations and restrictions on the amount of THC that can be found in goods have been implemented in a number of states, including California.

Those who are opposed to the Texas bill argue that it gives individuals who are unable to obtain marijuana through the state’s medical marijuana program the opportunity to purchase products that can provide a comparable level of relief.
There are thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue that are brought in by the business each year, which is something that many retailers around the state pointed out.
A bill that would have placed age restrictions on THC consumables was vetoed by the Republican governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, in the previous year. He said that the bill would be detrimental to small businesses.
