MONTEVALLOOn Monday, June 23, the Montevallo City Council convened to deliberate on forthcoming municipal requirements, such as getting ready for the August election and a significant paving project that would affect the entire city.
A resolution authorizing the city clerk to furnish the official voter list prior to the municipal election scheduled for August 26, 2025, was presented by the council at the meeting. In order to ensure effective cooperation between city officials and election staff, the resolution is a standard step in the run-up to election day.
As part of the agenda, council members also discussed a paving contract. Central Alabama Asphalt and Construction Company, LLC submitted a bid to the council for $219,868.41 to complete the citywide resurfacing project in 2025. The business was acknowledged as the lowest qualified bidder, and the project would be financed by Alabama Gas Tax money.
During the meeting, the council also heard complaints about the Almont area, particularly those pertaining to alleged criminal activities and noise code infractions.
Martha Ann Eisenberg, a council member, stated that we must assist this neighborhood. In order to address these disruptions, we must go out there and take action.
According to Montevallo Police Department Lieutenant D.B. Harrelson, the county is under the authority of both Montevallo and Shelby County, so the MPD or Shelby County police can respond based on the section of Almont where disturbances are occurring.
“We don’t always get notified if it’s in an area where Shelby County responds because that area is spotty jurisdictionally,” Harrelson explained.
