Following a crash in the centre of Little Five Points, glass, clothing, and debris were thrown over Moreland Avenue NE and Euclid Avenue NE on Monday evening.

Traffic in the vicinity came to a halt for many hours while crews investigated and cleaned up.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a trooper attempted to stop a car on Monday at 7:51 p.m. Troopers suspect the driver was speeding and observed the vehicle swerving in and out of lanes on Interstate 20 eastbound around Blvd. When the driver failed to stop, the trooper launched a pursuit.

The chase proceeded north on Moreland Avenue, away from the freeway. The suspect’s vehicle ran a red light at Moreland Avenue and McLendon Avenue and crashed with another automobile, damaging the driver’s side.

The driver of that vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the fleeing vehicle was brought to Grady Memorial Hospital for critical injuries.

A automobile with a red sheet covering the driver’s side window was discovered in front of the now-closed Corner Tavern. It appeared to have been hit by a minivan.

At one point, firefighters used tools to pull the truck apart so they could inside.

According to eyewitnesses, a black SUV being chased by troopers collided with a Honda sedan, propelling the car nearly a block away from the place of impact. The collision’s impact threw debris over the lane, creating a chaotic scene that gathered firefighters, police, and startled bystanders.

According to witnesses, at least one person died in the collision, though officials have yet to confirm the death. Following the encounter, troopers reportedly took a young woman from the SUV and arrested her.

As the inquiry into the incident continued, crime scene tape blocked the intersection until late in the evening.
