South Carolina to see unseasonably warm Easter with Highs in 80s

Many people will be undertaking outdoor activities this weekend and on Easter Sunday.

Raincoats and umbrellas will not be required, however there may be a combination of broken clouds with on and off rays of sunlight, but no precipitation is expected.

The forecast predicts a fairly warm afternoon.

Some areas in South Carolina will experience afternoon temperatures in the low 80s. While the majority of the state will experience high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s, a few locations may reach 90 degrees.

As the weekend approaches, daytime temperatures will rise from the low 70s midweek to the high 80s by the end of the week.

A huge region of high pressure over Bermuda will push warm air from the western Caribbean across the southeast Atlantic and into the Palmetto State.

Seasonally, discussions of high pressure above the Bermuda Islands coincide with hurricane forecast trajectories. This broad and powerful atmospheric force would normally send tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Basin south and southwest away from the area of high pressure.

This weather pattern will bring warm and moist air into the region, giving it the sense of Memorial Day weekend rather than Easter weekend.

The predicted Easter afternoon temperatures are unusual, but not unprecedented. However, comparing one Easter Sunday temperature to another is problematic.

The Sunday holiday does not fall on the same day or date range. Some of the dates considered in a difficult computation include the spring equinox and moon phases.

It’s clear when you look at prior Easter Sunday dates. Even though the holiday lasted three weeks, the decade’s high temperatures ranged from the mid 60s to the mid 80s.

With this Sunday’s nice weather and plenty of sunshine, it’s best not to keep any Easter chocolate or sweets outside for too long. It may be quite melted and does not make for attractive holiday treats.
