Thunderstorms are anticipated to arrive in the Kansas City area early Thursday morning, potentially interrupting the morning commute with rain, lightning, and strong winds.
The first round of storms is forecast to hit between 5 and 8 a.m., as a line of scattered thunderstorms moves in from south-central Kansas overnight.
Some storms may produce heavy rain, resulting in soggy roads during the busiest hours of the morning.
The rain is forecast to clear out of the metro by mid-morning, leaving dry, breezy, and abnormally warm conditions for the rest of Thursday.
Afternoon highs will reach the low to mid-80s, with wind gusts up to 40 mph.
Another set of storms might form Thursday evening in far northern Missouri, near the Iowa border.
While the greatest risk of severe weather remains north of the metro, isolated powerful storms with hail and destructive winds are still possible between 7 and 11 p.m.
Another storm is expected on Friday, particularly in cities east of I-35, including as Warrensburg, Sedalia, and Warsaw. Some of these storms could also become severe.
Temperatures will drop during the weekend, with highs in the upper 50s Saturday and Sunday.
A few showers may persist Saturday morning, but more widespread and possibly heavier rain is forecast on Easter Sunday when another system moves in from the south.
Dry weather is anticipated to return early next week, with additional storm chances developing by midweek.
