Concord Police chased armed robbery suspects to San Jose; 1 shot by officer

According to the Concord Police Department, the incident began soon before 10 a.m. when two suspects committed an armed robbery at the city’s credit union. Officers discovered the suspicious vehicle, which sparked a police pursuit.

Police claimed the pursuit continued south on Interstate 680 near Sunol, where the car got disabled. The thieves carjacked two automobiles at gunpoint before continuing the pursuit with one of them to San Jose.

Around 11:40 a.m., San Jose police said units were on the scene in the 900 block of Timothy Drive, near Mabury Road and Highway 101. According to police, the incident involved an outside agency.

In an update Monday afternoon, Sgt. Jorge Garibay of the San Jose Police Department stated they were alerted to the area around 10:40 a.m. by Concord police, who were following armed robbery suspects from their city and requested assistance.

According to Garibay, when San Jose police arrived, they discovered that a Concord police officer had shot one of the criminals. The suspect was brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, a second suspect who left the vehicle was apprehended by San Jose police. No police officers were hurt.

The names of the accused have yet to be published by authorities.

Garibay stated that the San Jose Police Department’s homicide section is investigating the shooting in accordance with the department’s officer-involved event protocol. Meanwhile, Concord police are looking into the robbery, pursuit, and carjacking.
