K9 alerts CHP to 20 pounds of Meth in Central Valley traffic stop

The California Highway Patrol reported that a simple traffic stop recently resulted in a major cocaine seizure.

The CHP in Merced performed a traffic stop on southbound SR-99 in the Central Valley for a vehicle code violation. During the stop, the CHP reported that the driver and passenger “appeared extremely nervous” and provided inconsistent explanations of their trip plans. Because of the questionable behaviour, the CHP requested a K-9.

When the K9 arrived at the site, it detected the odour of narcotics inside the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered 20 pounds of methamphetamine and an unregistered Glock handgun, according to CHP.

Both vehicle occupants were detained and taken to the CHP Merced Area headquarters.
