Tuesday brings severe thunderstorm potential, Strong Winds, and Cooler Temps to Southeastern Michigan

On Tuesday, Showers and thunderstorms are probable, with mostly cloudy skies. Some storms may be strong to severe throughout the afternoon and evening.

On Wednesday, Mostly sunny skies. Several more clouds throughout the afternoon and evening. At night, the sky becomes mostly cloudy. Rain showers begin after midnight.

After a pleasant and warm start to the week, active weather returns in the forecast for Tuesday, with thunderstorms possible.

The next round of thunderstorms is expected to hit the region as we head into Tuesday. High temperatures, much warmer before the cold front that causes thunderstorms. High temperatures are expected to reach the low 80s by Tuesday afternoon.

A wind advisory will be in force for all of Southeastern Michigan until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. With the strong southerly flow, we will maintain continuous winds of 15-25 MPH, with gusts up to 45 MPH likely. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured things, causing tree limbs to fall and a few power outages. Driving in these strong winds could be problematic, particularly for high-profile automobiles. Take extra precautions before traveling.

There is a chance of strong to severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center has reintroduced a Slight Risk (2 out of 5) for severe weather in most of Southeastern Michigan. As the cold front moves across the region, we can expect severe wind gusts of more than 65 mph, as well as heavy rain. Hail is probable, but winds will provide the bigger concern. The tornado threat is relatively low as we approach Tuesday. This cold front moves out of the region by mid to late evening on Tuesday, and the skies will clear overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

As temperatures in Metro Detroit dip into the lower 40s overnight tonight and Wednesday morning, we may see some 30s along and north of M-59, resulting in patchy frost in our northern areas.

Drier weather returns for the middle of the week on Wednesday, but it will settle down to near-normal temperatures. By Wednesday afternoon, high temperatures had dropped back into the low 60s.

Looking ahead to the end of the week, we bring the chance of rain showers back into the forecast for Thursday and Friday, with high temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s on Thursday and dropping into the lower 60s on Friday, before we dry things out looking ahead to the start of next weekend on Saturday. Temperatures are dropping slightly, with lows in the lower 60s expected by next weekend.

The sunshine is expected to last until the second half of next weekend. On Sunday, expect mostly bright skies. High temperatures are becoming slightly warmer. We’ll reach the upper 60s by Sunday afternoon. Expect the dry weather to last into early next week as well. Monday is predicted to be mostly sunny, with temperatures rising to the lower 70s by the afternoon.
