Woman With History of Traffic Violations Crashes Into Car, Killing 1 and Injuring 3

After crashing her Mercedes-Benz into a car carrying four passengers, killing one of them, and then making an unsuccessful attempt to flee because “her boyfriend told her to,” a Florida lady with a criminal history is facing numerous charges.

The 25-year-old Beverly Yvonne Slaughter is charged with 14 counts, including vehicular murder, leaving the scene of a fatal collision, and driving with a suspended license that results in death.

According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, the collision happened at the junction of West Sunrise Boulevard and NW 24th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale at approximately one in the morning on April 29.

As Sunrise approached 24th, Slaughter was traveling east in a 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class at a “high rate of speed.” A Nissan Altima with a green left turn signal light was turning left as she was approaching the junction.

The Altima was T-boned by Slaughter’s Mercedes. Video purports to show Slaughter fleeing her car after the collision.

According to the affidavit, Slaughter was seen “walking extremely discreet” down the back parking lot of a McDonald’s by a Fort Lauderdale police officer who had arrived on the scene. According to police, the officer rushed up to Slaughter and arrested her.

According to police, Slaughter claimed that “her boyfriend told her to run away” when they questioned why she had left.

Two of the Altima’s victims had severe injuries, and they were sent to the hospital immediately. After being removed from life support, one passed away on May 2.

Prosecutors contended in a bond application following Slaughter’s arrest on Wednesday that, given her driving history, she ought to stay in detention.

Two years ago, she was found guilty of driving without a license, and since 2021, her license has been suspended. In 2023, she was also arrested for reckless driving, driving under the influence, and evading or escaping from a police officer.

The prosecution contends that she demonstrated “disregard for the safety of the community” and that “there are no conditions of release reasonably sufficient to protect the community from risk of physical harm to person.”

In agreement, a court mandated that she be detained without bond at the Broward County Jail. Friday is the date of her upcoming court appearance.
