This cartoon expresses an opinion.
The SEC football gods have sent Hugh Freeze on a mission to get more elite football players to the Plains. Long-legged players! And girth! Absolutely! Amen.
Michael Casagrande, my colleague at AL.com, will handle it from here.
Casagrande: What did Hugh Freeze say?
Excerpts:
Which college coach is more fascinating than Hugh Freeze, if I may indulge?
You may detect a deliberate attempt at virality from members of this fraternity in the post-Spurrier environment.
The theatrics of a tirade had a certain amount of calculation, even with Nick Saban at the podium.
With Freeze, it simply doesn’t feel that way.
In one way or another, the third-year Auburn football coach delivers in a manner that seems genuine to me at least.
The next response, which was dripping with double entendre, was the unintended viral moment.
It has to do with having a larger squad, especially at running back.
Freeze stated, “It’s good that you have some that have some girth to them, but I don’t really get hung up on the running backs’ weight.” Without a doubt, this league requires both length and girth at linebacker and up front.
Whoa.

From there it went on.
Freeze stated, “I always tell guys that length matters on both sides when they’re recruiting these guys from an offensive perspective when we’re talking about open receivers.”
And went on.
“Those two guys we brought in and Jay (Hardy) have more length and girth to them,” Freeze remarked. Autry (Malik). Our linebacker length has increased in length and speed, but you can’t have that in every one of them. Yes, that is intentional; in certain postures, you want more length and girth.
Bravo, bow.
Even Lane Kiffin retweeted my piece about the comment in a Twitter post that, as of Wednesday night, had amassed over 700,000 views.
