A 26-year-old motorist died in a two-car crash late Tuesday evening while fleeing the scene of an unrelated hit-and-run, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said the man was speeding in the 2100 block of 214th Ave E after hitting a person north of the area when he lost control of his vehicle and slid sideways into the oncoming lane, where he was hit by a northbound vehicle.
The 26-year-old was ejected from his extensively damaged car and pronounced deceased on the spot.
The second motorist, a 43-year-old guy, was conscious and speaking when emergency personnel arrived. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities closed 214th Avenue E for many hours to conduct an investigation.
It is unclear whether the deceased motorist was inebriated, pending the results of a toxicology report.
