Fifth and First Division officers responded to eastbound I-64 at Mellwood Avenue at approximately 10:15 p.m. on reports of a vehicle collision, according to Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Aaron Ellis. Officers discovered a multi-vehicle collision when they got there.

According to the preliminary inquiry, the motorist, 28-year-old Jacob Collett, entered the highway at Grinstead Drive in the incorrect direction. Before crashing close to Mellwood Avenue, he continued to strike a number of cars going in the correct direction.
