According to authorities, an attempted carjacking in Florida recently resulted in the arrest of an MS-13 gang member and convicted felon.
According to a Coral Gables Police Department officer, on the morning of May 16, they were called to the 1500 block of Red Road in Miami in response to reports of a suspicious individual.
According to the police, a resident was stopped at a stop sign when a man in a mask approached him and tried to steal his vehicle. After managing to escape, the resident called the police.
Police claimed they found a revolver, knife, and mask, and the man wearing the mask was taken into custody.
Later, Wilson Verela, a 24-year-old Honduran national, was identified as the suspect.
The individual later acknowledged being a member of the infamous international gang, and police reported that he had an MS-13 tattoo on the left side of his chest.
Verela had also just been released from prison for aggravated battery with a weapon, investigators found.
To find out Verela’s status in the US, police stated they are collaborating with Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations.
Charges against Verela include possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon and burglary of an occupied residence.
