According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol, a 60-year-old man from Ormond Beach died in a motorcycle accident close to Osteen, which forced the closure of State Road 415 in the region.
According to troopers, the deadly collision happened on S.R. 415 at Fort Smith Boulevard at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Friday.
An FHP crash report states that the Ormond Beach guy was riding the motorcycle southbound on S.R. 415, approaching Fort Smith Boulevard in the outside lane, while a 2016 Ford Fusion was approaching the intersection in the left turn lane, heading east on Fort Smith Boulevard.
According to the report, the Ford driver, a 48-year-old man from Deltona, tried to turn left onto northbound S.R. 415, directly putting himself in the path of the motorcycle rider.
According to troopers, the motorcycle’s front hit the left side of the Ford.
According to FHP, the rider was carried to a hospital and declared dead. According to the report, the Deltona guy was hospitalized after suffering severe injuries.
As per the troopers, the rider was not wearing a helmet when the collision occurred.
As investigators worked the scene, lanes were closed in both directions on S.R. 415. According to the sheriff’s office, southbound traffic was rerouted to Noremac Avenue and northbound traffic was rerouted to Howland Boulevard.
According to troopers, the road has since been cleared.
