The Waco and Hewitt communities now have additional primary care alternatives thanks to the opening of a new Baylor Scott & White Urgent Care+.
At its location in the 5400 block of Crosslake Parkway, close to the current Hillcrest campus, the urgent care center will offer lab work, x-rays, physicals, and other preventative services.
The new urgent care center will address a primary healthcare need in Waco, Texas, according to Dr. Gregory Newman.
“As most patients know and are probably frustrated with, there’s a lot of demand for primary care,” Dr. Newman stated.
The urgent care center is situated close to shops. According to Jason James, vice president of regional operations, this will help the urgent care center blend in with the neighborhood.
“There are these restaurants and retail stores that people are traveling to anyway. I really like that about this location. It’s got good synergy with the neighborhood that it’s joining.”
According to Dr. Newman, the urgent care center will lessen the strain on the nearby Baylor Scott & White emergency room.
“The more same-day access you have for patients you keep the burden off the emergency room because if everything else is closed and they can’t get into their primary care and they feel like they need to be seen a lot of times they’ll access the emergency room and that may not be the most appropriate place for them,” Dr. Newman stated.

According to James, the other Baylor Scott & White clinics close to the urgent care center will make it simpler to get patients the attention they require fast.
“We’re very nimble at working with our partners,” James stated. “If the ER is what you need, we will get you to the ER. If a specialist is what you need, we will quickly get you to that Baylor Scott and White specialist.”
