In Des Plaines, Illinois, a 41-year-old man suffered severe injuries Friday afternoon after his vehicle struck a tree.
According to Des Plaines police, the collision occurred in the 900 block of Elmhurst Road at approximately 12:40 p.m.
According to initial reports, a guy from Mount Prospect lost control of a beige Volvo that was traveling south on Elmhurst Road, drove over into the northbound lanes, and collided with a tree in the parkway at 960 S. Elmhurst Rd.
He had severe injuries and was brought to a nearby hospital. There were no other recorded injuries.
What caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle remains unknown.
For over two hours, the collision blocked Northbound Elmhurst Road between Thacker/Dempster Street and Algonquin Road.
The crash is still being looked into.
