On Friday afternoon, first responders responded to a fatal collision on Highway 24 in north Topeka, where one person was confirmed deceased and another was critically hurt.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), the collision happened in the westbound lanes of Highway 24 near its intersection with Northwest Rochester Road shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30. On the highway, a Hyundai Santa Fe was heading east when it veered off to the right and then overcorrected to the left.
The Hyundai then struck a Kia Forte head-on after crossing the median and entering the westbound lanes of traffic.
According to the KHP, Anya J. Turner, a 22-year-old Topeka resident, was the Hyundai’s driver and perished in the collision. The Kia’s driver, a 32-year-old Topeka woman, suffered severe injuries and was taken to the hospital. Turner was buckled up when the collision occurred.
