A domestic dispute escalated into violence Saturday morning as a 25-year-old man was shot by his father-in-law outside a business in Conroe.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m. on a location near Highway 105 West. Upon arrival, officers discovered Koda Mayrant suffering from a gunshot wound.
Authorities initiated first aid before emergency medical personnel arrived and transported him to a local hospital. He is anticipated to pull through and was most recently reported to be in serious yet stable condition.
Authorities have identified the shooter as 47-year-old James Jack, who is related to Mayrant as his father-in-law.
Authorities report that the two individuals engaged in a fierce dispute that intensified into a violent confrontation. At one moment, Mayrant reportedly placed Jack in a chokehold.
Authorities report that Jack brandished a firearm and discharged a single round, striking Mayrant in the abdomen.
Investigators continue to collect evidence, and currently, there have been no arrests made.
The decision on whether to file charges will be made by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office once the investigation concludes.
