A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with a series of machete assaults, including a deadly incident, that occurred in downtown Los Angeles early Sunday morning.
The Los Angeles Police Department informed that they received the initial report at 12:17 a.m., detailing a horrific machete assault close to 11th Street and South Grand Avenue.
Authorities responded to the scene to discover an individual, presumably in his 60s, with stab wounds that seemed to have been caused by a machete attack.
The unidentified man was transported to a local hospital by paramedics, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
As LAPD officers were examining this situation, the department was alerted to another report of a “ambulance cutting” at a different site. The LAPD could not verify when this call occurred.
Authorities arrived to discover another individual with stab wounds, inflicted by a machete, near the intersection of Broadway Street and Olympic Boulevard. The individual involved has been identified as a male, estimated to be around 35 years of age.
The victim was taken by paramedics to a nearby hospital, where he is currently reported to be in stable condition.
Information is scarce; authorities have not yet clarified the number of stab wounds the victims sustained or the locations on their bodies that were affected.
Authorities present at the location of the second stabbing were alerted to a potential suspect.
In a thorough search of the vicinity, law enforcement located the individual suspected of involvement, along with the machete thought to have been utilized in the two incidents.
A representative from the LAPD stated that they were unable to verify the location of the suspect’s capture. At 10:16 a.m., the Central Division shared an update on X, stating, “Several different crime scenes were established and we thank the community for their patience.”
Authorities have not disclosed the suspect’s identity; however, they indicated that he is likely in his 20s to 30s and approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall.
The LAPD had no additional details about the charges as of Sunday afternoon.
