Homeowners in the state of Texas who wish to dispute their property tax valuations for the year 2025 have until Thursday to submit their appeals.
According to property tax professionals, homeowners in Tarrant County who are expected to see a freeze on their valuations should still go through with their appeals.
Homeowners in Tarrant County have recently received cards in the mail from the appraisal district informing them that their property values will be frozen once more this year.
This should represent a positive development for the homeowners.
However, folks who have a homestead exemption, which is something that a lot of people do, have been told by tax advisers that this is not necessarily good news.
Chandler Crouch, a real estate broker and property tax consultant, claims that he handles 40,000 appeals from homeowners in Tarrant County each year of which he is responsible for handling.
During this year, the market value of residences was frozen by the Tarrant Appraisal District, and it is expected that they will remain the same as they were in the previous year.
On the other hand, according to Crouch, the appraised value of homeowners who are eligible for homestead exemptions can still increase by as much as ten percent.
Because they are only considering the current market value, he is concerned that a large number of homeowners may be mislead by their appraisals and decide not to appeal, which will result in their losing money.

“That’s just one value, the value they actually pay taxes on, that’s going to go up a maximum of 10% like it does every year and there’s nothing you can do about that except for protest,” Crouch stated. “So that’s the message that everybody needs to hear: go protest. Absolutely, tons of people will leave money on the table.”
The 15th of May is the deadline for appealing property tax appraisals for the year 2025.
