HELENA –
The candidate pool for the Helena City Council race has expanded as Alex Miller announced his candidacy for Place 5.
Miller is a lifelong resident of Helena and a 2018 graduate of Helena High School. He attended Coker University where he earned a degree in history and competed on the wrestling team.
“I was born and raised in our wonderful city of Helena,” Miller said in a Facebook post on his campaign page. “As a lifelong resident, I am deeply committed to serving our community and ensuring its growth and prosperity.”
Miller has seen the expansion of Helena up close and wants to be a part of guiding the community forward as it continues to grow at a fast pace. As a member of Helena High’s first full graduating class, he knows the benefit growth can have if managed correctly.
Miller believes his education and athletic experience gives him the background knowledge needed to be an effective member of the council.
“I have a degree in history, experience as a collegiate wrestler and a strong background in running a family-owned utility company,” Miller said. “This combination has taught me the importance of dedication, perseverance and the value of serving the community.”
Miller looks forward to connecting with the residents of his hometown, a group of people he knows well. This helps him gain an understanding of the things they care about.
“I look forward to working together to create a brighter future for Helena, addressing the issues that matter most to our residents,” Miller said. “Thank you for your support, and I am eager to connect with each of you in the coming months.”
After representing the community as an athlete throughout his childhood, Miller is looking for an opportunity to give back to the city he is proud to call home.
Harold “Hewy” Woodman currently holds Place 5 on Helena’s City Council, but announced he would not seek reelection last August. As of now, Miller will only be running against Michael Rodgers for the seat. That could change as candidates continue to register.
The Municipal Election is set to take place on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
