FROM WORKER REPORTS
MONTEVALLOLongtime Montevallo resident and small business owner Alyssa Green has formally declared her intention to run for the Montevallo City Council’s District 5 seat.
After 15 years of living in Montevallo, Green hopes to influence city leadership with her love of people, small businesses, and community involvement.
“I am a small business owner who wants local businesses to succeed and a mother and friend who cares about our community’s safety,” Green said. Only if I act will I be able to positively influence my kids, your family, and all of us. I’m choosing to show up and try rather than saying I’m too busy.
According to Green, her campaign as a candidate will prioritize hearing the wants and worries of people living in District 5 and pushing for constructive change throughout the entire city. Her platform calls for lowering speeding, increasing general traffic safety, strengthening the sense of community, and boosting pedestrian safety by installing sidewalks. In order to boost local company growth, create jobs, and enhance public services, she also intends to forge closer ties between the city and the University of Montevallo.
Green is a well-known photographer and community activist in the Montevallo area. She has been the University of Montevallo’s official photographer for the past nine years, documenting campus life through a range of activities and projects. This September, she will start teaching photography at Calera High School in addition to operating her freelance photography company, Alyssa Luna Photo.
I have a distinct viewpoint as a visual storyteller that enables me to highlight subtleties that others might miss, Green said. My job has given me the chance to tour families about the neighborhood I adore, including our bustling downtown area, beloved parks, and pedestrian trails.
In 2014, Green graduated from the University of Montevallo with a Bachelor of Arts. Clint Green, her spouse, works as a teacher in Shelby County. Along with their two canines, Hal and Fin, they are raising three children together: Atlas, Adaline, and Sullivan.
Being involved in the community, the Greens help Montevallo by shopping locally, taking part in environmental cleanup projects, and teaching their kids civic duty.
It’s simple to follow our habits and do the same things we feel comfortable doing, according to Green. However, by making the effort to engage with our neighborhood, we can improve Montevallo simply by starting there.
The municipal election for 2025 is scheduled for Tuesday, August 26. Visit the Alyssa Green for Montevallo City Council Facebook page or send an email to alyssagreenformontevallo@gmail.com for additional details about Green’s campaign.
