Amanda Harvie has been appointed as the new Meadow View Elementary School principal by Alabama City Schools.
ACS declared on Tuesday, June 24, that Harvie, who is presently the assistant principal, will take over as MVES’s new principal for the upcoming academic year. According to ACS, her broad experience in education across several states and settings will make her a good fit for the position.
According to Harvie, her husband and she are happy Alabaster residents who are bringing up their two kids here to take advantage of the opportunities offered by Alabaster City Schools. I spent many years teaching and coaching soccer in Louisiana before joining ACS as a teacher, coach, and administrator.
Michelle Brakefield, the principal from 2019, is replaced by Harvie. Brakefield, who will be joining the Alabama State Department of Education as its new regional literacy specialist, made her departure public on social media on June 30.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts in French from the University of Montevallo in 2002, Harvie went on to earn a Master of Arts in French and Applied Linguistics from the University of Alabama in 2009. She also holds a degree as an education specialist with a focus on instructional technology and educational leadership.
Harvie has a wealth of educational experience, having held a variety of positions before to joining ACS.
Before working as an educator with the St. Tammany Parish School Board from 2011 to 2014, she taught French at Thurgood Marshall Early College School in Louisiana from 2009 to 2011. Before joining ACS in 2016 as a teacher at Thompson High School for three years, Harvie served Shelby County Schools in a variety of capacities from 2014 to 2016, including as a French teacher, English as a second language teacher, and soccer coach. In June 2020, she was appointed Meadow View Elementary School’s assistant principal.
Harvie thanked Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers and the Alabaster City Schools Board of Education for giving her the chance to take on the new position.
I am immensely grateful to the Board of Education and Dr. Vickers for the opportunity to lead Meadow View and continue building strong relationships with the students and community, ensuring that we are building Champions of the Future, Harvie said.
