SSDI payment standards and maximum amounts

A 2.5% cost of living adjustment (COLA), implemented as of January 2024, is included in this sum. The payment dates, which are determined solely by the range of birth, are not changed by the figure.
Every year, the amounts are recalculated by the SSA using economic indicators.
Although detractors point out that the raise does not always match the rise in necessities like housing or medication, the COLA aims to offset inflation.
Applicants must accrue work credits equal to at least ten years of labour and system payments in order to be eligible for SSDI.
The handicap must have a minimum anticipated length of 12 months or a risk of impending death, and it must be medically confirmed.
Temporary or partial conditions that do not affect employment permanently are excluded by the SSA.
Conditions like multiple sclerosis, severe cancer, or irreparable brain damage are typically accepted. Federal data show that 35 percent of original applications were accepted in 2023.
SSDI evaluation procedure in five steps
There are five steps in the process of determining eligibility. First, the applicant’s employment status is confirmed.
