The cost of living hits a record high

As the cost of living remains a major worry for Americans around the country, there have been online rumors about a new stimulus check of $2,000.

Many voters were hoping for a rise in the cost of living as the Trump Administration entered its second non-consecutive term in office in more than 100 days.

The cost of living, however, does not appear to have decreased for many people in the face of international tensions brought on by President Trump’s tariffs.

Trump has increased tariffs on a number of nations, including Canada and Mexico, two nearby trading partners.

Nearly all countries will be subject to a minimum 10% tax, with some countries facing significantly higher fees of up to 50%.

According to the president, the higher tariffs will boost tax revenues, entice American consumers to purchase more goods created in the US, and attract significant foreign investment to the country. However, given the state of the economy, many experts caution that the US is on the verge of a recession.

A fresh stimulus payout of $2,000?

The distribution of a $2,000 stimulus cheque this month has not been confirmed.

This month’s sole confirmed payments are still the monthly Social Security benefits, certain state-specific social program initiatives, a double round of beneficiaries’ Supplementary Security Income (SSI) payments, and others.

Social Security benefits are distributed on a monthly basis in accordance with a rigorous schedule. Regular payments from the retirement fund, disability fund, and SSI fund will be made to beneficiaries.

However, because the June SSI payment date comes on a Sunday, SSI beneficiaries will receive two payments. The June payment will be disbursed on May 30.

Beneficiaries of other state-specific programs, like California’s Family First Economic Support Pilot, will also keep receiving payments. These initiatives, however, are unique to each state and county and are not national in scope.

California’s Family First Economic Support Pilot program aims to give California families below 200% of the federal poverty level a source of income.
