Atypical is an American comedy series created by Robia Rashid; the coming-of-age series was released on August 11, 2017. The series has received worldwide success on Netflix and has millions of fans from all over the world. The story follows an 18-year-old teenager boy on the autism spectrum, Sam Gardner, towards a life-changing experience seeking love and independence. Sam finds himself in the most challenging point of his life as he prepares to finish school.
The series has also earned positive reviews from the audience, although some critics pointed out the condition’s inaccuracies. With four completed seasons of the series, fans are wondering if there will be a season 5? Here’s what we know so far.
Will Atypical Return For Season 5?
Hate to break this for you but far as the return for Atypical season 5 is concerned, there won’t be a season 5. So yes, unfortunately, Netflix has canceled Atypical season 5. On February 24, 2020, Netflix announced that the fourth season would be the final season.
Atypical fourth season premiered on July 9, 2021, on Netflix. It consists of a total of 10 episodes varying from 26-38 minutes each.
Upon completion of Atypical fourth season’s renewal, the series creator Rashid said, “I’m thrilled we’ll be doing a season four of ‘Atypical.’ And while I’m so sad to be nearing the end of this series, I am extremely grateful to have been able to tell this story.” She conveyed her appreciation towards the fans and said she hopes the dramedy will inspire many unheard voices to move toward the forefront. Rashid also wishes to continue “telling funny, emotional stories from underrepresented points of view.”
So far, there’s no specific explanation as to why the series is ending after the fourth season. In June 2021, in a chat with Bustle, Rashid mentioned finishing the series and the legacy it leaves behind. She said, “I hope ‘Atypical’ is remembered as an extremely funny show that’s about something important that people love and relate to. I hope it further normalises the casting and representation of people with disabilities.”
The comedy-drama series may have ended for good. However, fans still can’t believe that their favourite series has come to an end even though they wished to see more of Sam and his family. Yet, at the same time, fans are happy that the series finale season ended on a good note and thus reached a satisfactory conclusion. If you ever want to go back and watch it all over again, it’s available on Netflix.
